RAFP play a type of new jazz that is a result of the typical European, multi-cultural music life. Both players in this duo are jazz musicians who open heartily explore all types of music and mix it in to there playing and writing. The result is a music with rhythmic momentum and jazz sensibility with hints of new music, improv, Latin American and African music. Improvisation is paramount for these two musicians and the duo format yields nicely to spontaneous musical communication.

History:

Robert and Fabrizio met in Amsterdam in 1998 while Fabrizio was in town for a gig at the BIM Huis. Fabrizio decided to stick around for a while to check out the Amsterdam scene, this gave the two the chance to play together informally on the houseboat Robert was living on. Realizing they had a common approach to music and improvisation they continued to play together in various formats which led to a week engagement at the now defunct Pompoen club in Amsterdam with a Quartet including Ernst Glerum (ICP) on bass and Clarence Becton (Monk, Waldron etc.) on drums. They played a duo concert in Fabrizio’s home town of Catania, Sicily which lead to more duo gigs including an “action painting” performance with the Neapolitan artist Lelia Andreoli in Naples. Again in Naples they played at Andreoli’s exhibition of paintings of Amsterdam jazz musicians and also recorded a CD of original compositions and one Piazzolla tune.
